"Knock knock, it's the United States!" ― Technoblade quoting Bill Wurtz in 1000 vs 1000 Player War!
Alexander "Alex" † (June 1, 1999 - June 30, 2022 [aged 23]), better known online as Technoblade (or simply Techno, also known as Technothepig and The Blade), was an American gaming YouTuber.
He was commonly regarded in the Minecraft community as the best player in the world for his skills, strategy, and tactics in PvP. He was also well known for being in a friendly rivalry with fellow Minecraft YouTuber Dream. His YouTube channel icon is a pig dressed as a king carrying a sword. He was part of the Dream SMP.
Illness and death[]
Technoblade announced that he was diagnosed with sarcoma, a type of bone cancer, in an August 2021 video titled "where i've been"; he felt pain in his right arm and noticed a lump on his shoulder, leading to the diagnosis. Although Technoblade never stated the specific type of his cancer, he had previously raised $500,000 for the Sarcoma Foundation of America throughout his YouTube career. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy proved unhelpful, and the doctor informed that Technoblade would probably have his arm amputated to remove the tumor. Instead, one of his joints was surgically removed to remove the tumor.
Sadly, on June 30, 2022, Technoblade's father announced Technoblade had succumbed to the cancer at the tender age of 23, in a video called "so long nerds". He read a script written by Technoblade eight hours before he died, announced that all proceeds on his merchandise would be donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America, and played a picture montage. The video ended with a written message from Technoblade's mother.
Reactions and tributes[]
The announcement of Technoblade's passing quickly became #1 trending on YouTube, and many fans expressed their condolences on the comments section of the video. Other YouTubers including MrBeast and Karl Jacobs expressed their condolences for the fallen streamer, and Mojang even added a tribute to Technoblade, by putting a crown on a pig on Minecraft's launch screen and adding splash text that says "Technoblade never dies". Hypixel also paid tribute to the YouTuber by putting in a condolence book (as a make-shift funeral).
